The Galley Beggar Press
Short Story Prize

‘Back Seat’

The GBP Short Story Prize 2018/19 is currently open to submissions. While it is, we’ll be revisiting last year’s fantastic longlist- and shortlistees, with links to their work.

Our seventh finalist, from the 2016/17 longlist of 13 authors and shortlist of four, is Linda McVeigh.

LINDA McVEIGH is a writer with considerable success in competitions, including first prize in the Charleston Small Wonder Short Story Festival slam (2007, 2011), first prize in the Rainy Cities Short Stories prize (2010), and first prize in the 2011 Asham Award, judged by Sarah Waters. She also won the inaugural Brighton Prize in 2014. Her story ‘All Over the Place’ was published in Something Was There (Virago, 2011). She was Writer in Residence at the Jane Austen in Worthing Festival 2015 and is currently writing a novel.

Linda’s GBP 2016/17 Short Story Prize longlisted story, ‘Back Seat’, is not currently available, but you can read another of Linda’s short stories, ‘All Over The Place’, here.
