The Galley Beggar Press
Short Story Prize
‘Something Was Being Broken’
The GBP Short Story Prize 2017/18 is currently open to submissions. While it is, we’ll be revisiting last year’s fantastic longlist- and shortlistees, with links to their work.
Our twelfth finalist, from the 2016/17 longlist of 13 authors and shortlist of four, is Richard Smyth.
RICHARD SMYTH’s stories have appeared in The Stinging Fly, Structo, The Fiction Desk, The Lonely Crowd, The Stockholm Review, Firewords, Riptide and a few more. In 2017, he was awarded a Northern Writers’, Award for fiction; his first novel, Wild Ink, was published in 2014. He writes for the TLS and the Guardian and is currently seeking backing for his new novel, Quays, through the crowdfunding publisher Unbound Books.
Richard’s GBP 2016/17 Short Story Prize longlisted story, ‘Something Was Being Broken’, can be accessed here.
You can read another of Richard’s short stories, ‘Empty Air’, here.
