Classic Stories No. :
HELEN OYEYEMI, ‘My daughter the racist’

AS WE ENTER THE FINAL TWO WEEKS OF THE GBP Short Story Prize 2018/19, we’ll be posting recommendations from our judges of short stories (both classic and contemporary) for readers and entrants to access freely.

Today, here is Helen Oyeyemi’s ‘My daughter the racist’, chosen by GBP Short Story Prize judge Aki Schilz. Aki writes: ‘Helen Oyeyemi’s darkly lit fairytales for the modern age tell stories aslant, carve slices of them for us and intimate far more than they say, with subtlety but with immense power, too. After that killer first line? I was sold.’

You can read ‘My daughter the racist’ here.
